Description/Notes
Major Responsibilities and Duties: Provides basic first aid and care for minor injuries and illness and chronic health conditions according to district policy and regulations/protocols established by the School Nurse/RN or the district medical advisor; Administer students’ medications under the assignment of the school administrator or delegation of the RN, following district policies and procedures; Takes vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration rate, pulse oximetry and blood pressure) and accurately documents; Communicates findings and student complaints to supervising school health staff for direction; Contacts parents of students who need to be picked up from school according to established school health services protocols or as directed by the School Nurse/RN; Contacts EMS according to established school health services protocols or as directed by the School Nurse (RN); Maintains confidential health records (sorting, filing, reviewing for completeness); Maintains patient confidentiality Administer required vision and hearing screening for students; Sends out routine notices to parents; Maintains an efficient and safe clinic including infection control procedures, under the direction of the School Nurse/RN; Reports sensitive situations and/or extensive injuries/illnesses to RN for further evaluation: Works under protocols established by a license school nurse. Maintains positive communication with colleagues, community members, parents, and students. Makes positive contributions to workplace morale: Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement by valuing learning and making a commitment to quality. Working Conditions Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Standard medical clinic equipment including automated external defibrillator (AED); special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals Posture: Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require regular occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities Environment: Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
Qualifications
High School graduate with a valid CPR/AED certification Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) 1 year experience preferred, in a nursing or health care environment with children Medication administration certification Ability to operate specialized medical equipment such as glucometer preferred at hire State mandated Vision & Hearing training within 3 months of hire Must be able to work appropriate computer systems. Salary Range
To be determined by breadth of experience and the LVISD salary schedule
