Pecos High School serves as the flagship campus for the Pecos-Barstow Toyah Independent School District, educating over 800 students in the rural West Texas community of Pecos. Under the leadership of Principal Chantel Hluchan, the school is experiencing significant growth and modernization to better serve its student body. The campus recently expanded with a new Career and Technical Education (CTE) building that opened in July 2024, providing students with enhanced opportunities for hands-on learning and career preparation. Looking ahead, Pecos High School is set to undergo further transformation with the planned opening of a new academic building and natatorium in summer 2026. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, or high school diploma/GED and equivalent wage-earning experience as required by certification. Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI) Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned [Physical Education Teachers: Current automated external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate] Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of core academic subject assigned General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Ability to oversee student field experiences in career area assigned Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience: Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
