- PRIMARY FUNCTION Provide instructional leadership and overall administration of the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP). Ensure that students assigned to the program are supported academically, socially, and behaviorally in accordance with state law and district policy. Foster a safe, structured, and restorative environment that promotes student growth and successful transition back to the home campus. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Certification: Master’s degree in educational administration Valid Texas principal certificate Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser Special Knowledge/Skills: Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness Ability to manage budget and personnel Ability to implement policy and procedures Ability to interpret data Excellent organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills Experience: Three years instructional leadership experience preferred Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate EVALUATION Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Monitor and support the delivery of high-quality instruction aligned with the district curriculum. Lead and support staff in providing individualized instructional support to address student learning gaps. Evaluate instructional effectiveness using multiple data sources. Oversee the intake, placement, and transition of students into and out of DAEP. Implement behavior management systems with a focus on restorative practices and SEL (Social Emotional Learning). Maintain a structured, safe, and positive campus environment conducive to learning and behavior improvement. Recruit, hire, and retain qualified instructional and support staff. Supervise and evaluate staff performance and provide coaching for growth. Conduct regular staff meetings and professional development aligned with the needs of DAEP students. Ensure program compliance with TEA guidelines, local policies, and state law regarding DAEP placements. Maintain accurate student records and ensure timely reporting of attendance, grades, and discipline data. Collaborate with home campuses, special programs, and student services to ensure continuity and support. Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and behavior. Foster a collaborative relationship with law enforcement and community partners. Promote a positive image of the DAEP and its role within the district. Adhere to professional and ethical standards, in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics. Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job performance. Maintain confidentiality. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Attend and participate in staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and the Superintendent of Schools. WORK ENVIRONMENT Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 25 pounds) Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress Environment: Indoors including but not limited to: classroom, cafeteria, library, or other campus location. Outdoors (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather). Exposure to noise. May work prolonged or irregular hours. A remote location in the event of a declared emergency, temporary closure, or closure. Personal Protective Equipment may be required.
