PRIMARY FUNCTION To provide leadership, coordination, and support for a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes the academic, personal, and social development of all students. The Director of Counseling ensures district counseling services are implemented effectively, consistently, and in alignment with state guidelines and district priorities. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Certification: Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, or related field Valid Texas School Counselor Certification Special Knowledge/Skills: Strong leadership skills with demonstrated success in program management, team building, and strategic planning In-depth knowledge of Texas education regulations, counseling standards, and TEA (Texas Education Agency) requirements Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills Experience working with diverse student populations and promoting equity in education Ability to analyze a variety of data Experience: Minimum of three (3) years as a school counselor Leadership experience at campus or district level preferred EVALUATION Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Design, implement, and manage a developmentally appropriate, district-wide counseling program aligned with the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. Monitor program effectiveness and ensure counseling services are equitable, consistent, and student-focused across all campuses. Support campuses in developing schedules and plans for counselor-led guidance lessons. Serve as the primary point of contact for campus counselors and provide regular coaching and support. Coordinate professional development for counselors to support continuous growth in counseling best practices. Facilitate regular district-wide counselor meetings to align practices and address common needs. Collaborate with campus staff to ensure counseling services address students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. Promote early identification and intervention strategies to support students experiencing personal or academic challenges. Support the development of student goal-setting, decision-making, and problem-solving skills through guidance programs. Partner with campus administrators to ensure appropriate counselor assignments and support structures. Provide guidance on district policies and procedures related to counseling services. Maintain and monitor counseling program documentation and reporting in compliance with state and district guidelines. Use data to inform program decisions and support campus improvement plans. Collaborates closely with principals and campus counselors to develop and support the master schedule process. Ensure adherence to ethical guidelines and confidentiality laws governing student information and services. Adhere to professional and ethical standards, in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics. Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job performance. Maintain confidentiality. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies. Attend and participate in staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and the Superintendent of Schools.
Qualifications
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university Master degree preferred Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned
Salary Range
Minimum Salary: $83,941 Mid-Point: $98,428 Maximum: $115,141
