- MISSION: The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will improve outcomes for all public-school students in the state by providing leadership, guidance, and support to school systems. Core Values: • We are Determined: We are committed and intentional in the pursuit of our main purpose, to improve outcomes for students. • We are People-Centered: We strive to attract, develop, and retain the most committed talent, representing the diversity of Texas, each contributing to our common vision for students. • We are Learners: We seek evidence, reflect on success and failure, and try new approaches in the pursuit of excellence for our students. • We are Servant Leaders: Above all else, we are public servants working to improve opportunities for students and provide support to those who serve them. New hires, re-hires, and internal hires will typically receive a starting salary between the posted minimum and the average pay of employees in their same classification. Offers will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications and will thoughtfully consider internal pay equity for agency staff who perform similar duties and have similar qualifications. The top half of the posted salary range is generally reserved for candidates who exceed the requirements and qualifications for the role. The maximum of the salary range is reserved for candidates that far exceed the required and preferred qualifications for the role. POSITION OVERVIEW: At the Texas Education Agency’s Office of Governance (OG), we are driven by a powerful mission: to proactively support school systems, keep students safe, and uphold Texas education law with integrity, objectivity, and excellence. Our core workstreams—Field Support and Compliance & Investigations—focus on strengthening governance, fostering a culture of accountability, and promoting continuous improvement across Texas schools. By working closely with school systems and agency teams, we help ensure every Texas public school student has access to a safe, high-quality education. The Self-Reported Data Unit (SRDU) within the Compliance and Investigations Department ensures the accuracy, completeness, and quality of data submitted by Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to TEA. These data are essential to understanding school performance, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws. SRDU achieves this through data monitoring and analysis, conducting compliance reviews and investigations, and working closely with both internal and external stakeholders. The Compliance Analyst will perform highly complex (senior-level) compliance analysis work related to self-reported data concerns, primarily through conducting reviews that are complex or large in scale. This role supports SRDU’s annual data validation projects in the areas of student discipline, leaver, and assessment data, and may contribute to other initiatives as needed. The analyst helps ensure data quality and regulatory compliance by evaluating programs, policies, and documentation, and by preparing clear, actionable reports that inform leadership and support agency decision-making. This position offers an opportunity to lead meaningful work that directly impacts the quality of education for millions of Texas students. This position works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This role reports to SRDU’s Annual Data Validation Supervisor and is also supported by the SRDU Compliance Analysis Manager. Flexible work location within the state of Texas may be considered for qualified candidates. Please note that a resume and tailored cover letter are required attachments for applying to this position. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Additionally, applicants who are strongly being considered for employment must submit to a national criminal history background check. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Job duties are not limited to the essential functions mentioned below. You may perform other functions as assigned. 1. Data Anomaly Detection: collaborates with SRDU staff and TEA program areas to identify potential data concerns, including assisting in the development and processing of self-reported data validation indicators by gathering relevant background information (e.g., relevant state/federal laws, reporting requirements) and uncovering possible reasons for data anomalies 2. Compliance Review: conducts reviews of data concerns and evaluates local education agency responses to determine appropriate actions to ensure compliance with state and federal law, including but not limited to the Texas Administrative Code and Texas Education Code 3. Cross-Divisional Coordination: works with internal investigative units, general counsel, and other agency teams to understand the context and potential impact of data concerns and to determine the actions needed to resolve the findings 4. Report Writing: prepares and delivers written and oral reports that clearly summarize compliance review findings for internal and external stakeholders 5. Customer Service and Quality Assurance: supports SRDU leadership in working with TEA program areas to ensure LEAs have access to the information and tools needed to improve local practices and report data accurately; provides timely, clear, and helpful communications, guidance, and support to internal and external stakeholders
