- JOB TITLE: Assistant Superintendent – School Transformation Days per Year: 226 Min: $140,393 Mid: $169,150 REPORTS TO: Chief – Transformation WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt PAY GRADE: AI 9 PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Assistant Superintendent of School Transformation will direct the operations, instructional leadership, and school improvement efforts of campuses assigned by the Chief of Transformation, with a specific focus on schools rated “D” or “F” by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) or otherwise identified as needing targeted or comprehensive support. This position is charged with rapidly improving student outcomes, strengthening school leadership, and ensuring alignment with state and federal accountability standards. The Assistant Superintendent of School Transformation will coach and support principals, monitor the implementation of effective improvement strategies, and ensure sustained progress in academic performance and school culture. In collaboration with the Chief of Transformation and district departments, this leader will guide the implementation of turnaround initiatives, facilitate progress monitoring, and maintain clear, consistent communication with stakeholders. The Assistant Superintendent of School Transformation must act with urgency, data-informed precision, and a deep commitment to educational equity and excellence. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Campus Supervision and School Leadership: Supervise and evaluate the performance of principals at assigned campuses, focusing on schools in need of targeted or comprehensive support Coach principals in the development and execution of Campus Improvement Plans (CIPs) and/or Targeted Improvement Plans (TIPs), ensuring alignment with district goals and TEA requirements Build strong systems of principal coaching, talent development, and leadership accountability Support the identification, recruitment, and retention of transformational school leaders Collaborate with district departments to remove barriers, align resources, and address operational needs on assigned campuses Visit campuses regularly to monitor instructional practices, leadership capacity, and school climate Turnaround Strategy Implementation: Lead the execution of district and state-approved school improvement strategies in alignment with the district's Transformation Plan Support the implementation of high-leverage instructional practices, data-driven instruction, and evidence-based interventions Ensure alignment between campus efforts and TEA’s Effective Schools Framework (ESF) Promote high-impact professional development that addresses identified areas of growth for school staff and leadership teams Coordinate and support the effective use of external partners, consultants, or vendors engaged in school improvement work Data and Accountability: Monitor academic performance, attendance, discipline, and other key metrics across assigned campuses Analyze multiple data sources to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement Report progress to the Chief of Transformation and other district leadership regularly Ensure that each campus has clear academic goals and defined performance benchmarks Support campuses in creating systems for continuous monitoring and adjustment of improvement plans Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: Collaborate with families, community organizations, and district leaders to promote support and ownership of transformation efforts Communicate consistently with school communities regarding progress, needs, and next steps Foster a culture of high expectations, equity, and shared accountability across assigned schools Collaboration and District Alignment: Work collaboratively with the Chief of Transformation, Academic Leadership, Student Support Services, Human Resources, and other central departments to ensure campus needs are met Align campus efforts with district strategic priorities, Board goals, and accountability mandates Supervise and support the Director of School Leadership and Support assigned to transformation campuses Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal policies related to school transformation, grants, and school improvement funds WORKING CONDITIONS: Physical Demands / Environmental Factors: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, and occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. Frequent intra-district travel and occasional statewide travel are required. Mental Demands: Ability to solve complex problems in high-pressure environments; ability to apply research-based solutions; ability to manage competing priorities; and ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Extended work hours may be required. - Qualifications
- QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification Minimum of 10 years of experience in education, with at least 5 years in school or district leadership Preferred: Doctorate Degree in Education or a related field Experience in large, diverse urban or suburban school districts SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Demonstrated success in leading school turnaround or improvement efforts Deep understanding of the Texas Accountability System, A–F ratings, and TEA sanctions/intervention processes TEA training or certification in Effective Schools Framework (ESF), TIP/CIP, or related school improvement protocols Demonstrated ability to lead rapid school improvement with measurable academic gains Skilled in principal coaching, talent development, and leadership evaluation Working knowledge of effective instructional practices, curriculum alignment, and data-driven instruction Ability to manage and support transformational change in high-need school environments Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills Familiarity with federal and state school improvement funding requirements and compliance regulations Collaborative leadership style with a commitment to equity, access, and high expectations for all students
