- JOB TITLE: Director – Performing and Visual Arts REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent – Academics WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt PAY GRADE: AI 5 PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Director of Performing and Visual Arts (PVA) provides strategic leadership, oversight, and advocacy for the district’s fine arts programs, including Music, Theatre, Dance, Art, Speech, and Debate. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating high-quality instructional programs, fostering student achievement and participation, and promoting excellence in arts education across all campuses. The Director will collaborate with campus and district leaders to support curriculum alignment, instructional growth, educator development, and community engagement. This individual also manages key operational components, including program budgets, staffing, scheduling, compliance, UIL contests, and partnerships. All employees are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate clearly and respectfully, champion the needs of our students, and drive continuous improvement. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Instructional Leadership and Program Oversight Direct curriculum and instructional services for all PVA content areas to meet district goals and student needs Lead the review, selection, and implementation of instructional materials, resources, and equipment Analyze student performance and apply data to drive instructional improvement and equity in access Provide regular feedback to teachers and principals on program effectiveness and instructional quality Collaborate with campus leaders to support teacher recruitment, hiring, and placement in PVA disciplines Develop, implement, and revise guidelines and frameworks to ensure alignment with TEKS, district priorities, and state mandates Professional Learning and Capacity Building Design and deliver ongoing professional development for fine arts teachers and leaders Supervise the private lesson and master class programs for PVA students Facilitate instructional coaching, program-specific training, and collaborative planning opportunities Compliance, Operations, and Logistics Oversee all UIL, TMEA, and TAEA fine arts activities, including eligibility, registration, rule interpretation, and supervision Support the master scheduling process to ensure appropriate course offerings and staffing allocations Coordinate travel, transportation, and supervision for centrally funded co-curricular and extracurricular PVA activities Serve as a resource for interpreting policies related to booster clubs, fundraising, and parent support organizations Budget and Resource Management Develop and manage central department budgets, including general, federal, and grant funding Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with district policies and program needs Supervise budget and staffing for private lesson and master class programs Community Engagement and Advocacy Maintain high visibility across campuses and the community by attending concerts, exhibitions, contests, and performances Build and sustain partnerships with local artists, arts organizations, and educational institutions Communicate effectively with principals, staff, parents, and community stakeholders to promote fine arts initiatives General Leadership and Supervision Supervise and evaluate appropriate departmental staff Contribute to the district’s Five-Year Education Plan and other strategic initiatives Compile, maintain, and present reports, records, and documentation as required Secure consultants, guest artists, and external specialists to enhance instruction and program enrichment Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent WORKING CONDITIONS: Physical Demands / Environmental Factors: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require physical mobility, prolonged sitting and standing, use of a computer, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. This position requires frequent travel within the district and occasional statewide travel. Mental Demands: Ability to manage multiple complex projects, interpret policy and research, analyze data, and solve problems effectively. Must maintain professionalism and emotional control under stress and adapt to changing situations and priorities. - Qualifications
- QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master’s degree in Education or a related fine arts content area from an accredited college or university Texas teaching certification in Music, Art, Dance, or Theatre Minimum of five (5) years of classroom teaching experience in a fine arts discipline Preferred Mid-management or principal certification Three (3) or more years of district-level leadership experience in fine arts education
