The top half of the posted salary range is generally reserved for candidates who exceed the requirements and qualifications for the role. The maximum of the salary range is reserved for candidates that far exceed the required and preferred qualifications for the role. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Financial Auditor plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with accounting rules and standards and with local, state, and federal statues related to annual financial reporting of Texas schools. In this role, will perform first level review work for annual financial reports of local education agencies with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail; interpret accounting information; coordinate referral of information; perform critical projects or programs as assigned; and correspond with school personnel, external auditors, public officials, and the public in general. The Financial Auditor must be honest, ethical, self-motivated, proficient in audit methodologies and skilled in electronic data processing (EDP). This position is a member of the Financial Desk Reviews team and reports to the Manager of Annual Financial Report Reviews (Manager V) of Financial Desk Reviews in the Financial Compliance Division. The Financial Auditor works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Flexible work location within the state of Texas may be considered for qualified candidates. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Job duties are not limited to the essential functions mentioned below. You may perform other functions as assigned. 1. Desk Review and Reporting: conducts annual financial report audit reviews and incorporates the external auditor’s findings and the TEA comments, as appropriate, into the final reports or letters 2. Planning and Process Improvement: assists in developing annual financial report audit review program policies, procedures, standards, and manuals in compliance with overall accounting and auditing standards, laws, rules, and regulations 3. Customer Service and Stakeholder Support: provides technical guidance and communication to team members and external stakeholders

- Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university • Degree fields: Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field. • Experience: At least three least [3] years of experience in auditing, financial analysis, accounting, or other relevant fields. (Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), ) may substitute for experience.) • Substitutions: An advanced degree may substitute for two years of required experience. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: • Share the belief that all Texas students can achieve at high levels and are able to succeed in college, career, or the military. • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB) pronouncements, and/or Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) accounting standards. • Experience with reviewing annual financial reports to identify financial compliance issues over the relevant statues, rules, regulations, and guidance. • Ability to prepare audit review programs, review documentation, gather information, prepare work papers, develop issues/findings, and compose clear and concise reports. • Highly organized, attention to detail, with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and produce high quality work. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Excel, and Word. • Strong customer-service mindset and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of internal and external customers. • Ability to engage in a collaborative, results-oriented team environment, give/receive feedback and continuously improve. • School district, charter school, government or non-profit environment is preferred. • Major coursework in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field is highly preferred. • Knowledge of Texas school finance, the Financial Accountability System Resource Guide (FASRG), and/or Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) certification preferred.
