- ● Monitor compliance and accuracy of special education documentation and procedures aligned with TEA State and Federal regulations. ● Provide campus support on assigned level (secondary or elementary), serving as a contact between the campuses and the special education department. ● Monitor implementation of individualized education plans (IEP) and facilitate communication with parents and staff. 1. Support student achievement ensuring delivery of special education curriculum and instruction according to the IEP of individual students. Including coaching special education and general education teachers on inclusion and monitoring implementation of inclusion schedules as well as monitoring Life Skills classrooms. 2. Ensure student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis, and findings are used to make decisions to improve program effectiveness as it relates to specific student needs. Offer and implement changes when warranted. 3. Collaborate with teachers to address student achievement deficiencies focusing resources, materials, and technology to promote satisfactory classroom performance. Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs. 4. Assist in the referral process for special education evaluation including attendance at RTI/MTSS meetings in which referral is being considered. 5. Assist in monitoring the instructional process to ensure program activities are aligned with desired outcomes and IEP. Instructional Support 6. Support the district’s student management policies and expectations for student behaviors related to the special education program. Assist in scheduling and conducting Manifestation Determination Reviews (MDR) as needed. 7. Use coaching skills to support staff, build capacity, and provide technical assistance. 8. Provide orientation to new staff on procedures for effective implementation of the campus ARD process. 9. Provide professional development on a range of topics. Communication and Community Relations 10. Establish and maintain a positive relationship with principals, teachers, staff, and parents by supporting innovation and efforts in educating students with disabilities. 11. Serve as parent liaison in matters pertaining to student assessment, program eligibility, and IEPs. 12. Articulate the district’s mission and goals in the area of special education and solicit support in realizing the mission. Policy, Reports, and Law 13. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required. 14. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of special education. Make recommendations to improve program effectiveness. 15. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education Supervisory Responsibilities: None
- Qualifications
- Education/Certification: Master’s Degree, required Valid Texas teaching certificate, required Valid Texas Principal/Mid-management certificate, preferred Special Knowledge/Skills Specialized knowledge and skill in the identification, testing, teaching and progress monitoring of students Knowledge of state and federal laws for educating students with disabilities Knowledge of Special Education/504 laws and regulations Understanding of the individual needs of students with disabilities Ability to communicate effectively with parents and staff Ability to implement policies and procedures Ability to interpret data Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Self motivated with minimal supervision Commitment to collaboration, teaming and effectiveness in working within a professional learning community Ability to work with students, parents, administrators and teachers at all grade levels Experience: 5 years of successful teaching experience preferred Campus level Special Education program management experience
- Salary Range
- Min: $80,513.78 - Mid $100,642.23 (12 month)
