Position Summary The Systems Administrator is the key technical lead ensuring the stability, security, and high availability of the District's instructional and administrative technology. This autonomous role requires strong technical judgment to manage high-volume workflow, proactively mitigate risks, and provide Tier 2/3 support. Core duties include specialized administration of Microsoft Exchange Online (M365), security policy enforcement (SPF/DKIM/DMARC), and PowerShell scripting. The role also manages essential infrastructure, including server administration, VMware virtualization, patch management, and backup procedures. Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities Core Systems & Infrastructure Administration: Provide expert administration and escalation support for messaging services (Microsoft Exchange, Google Admin Console, Identity Management) and diverse operating systems (Windows Server/Client, Linux, macOS, Chrome OS). Virtualization: Configure and maintain enterprise virtualization platforms (VMware ESX/vSphere). Networking: Provide support and possess deep technical knowledge of critical network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP). Support: Manage and support network-attached time clocks. Develop and oversee implementation and maintenance of security for all systems. Develop and implement backup procedures to ensure that all network drives and servers are performed on a regular basis and district data is restored as needed. Assist with the development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan. Deployment & Endpoint Management Deployment: Lead OS imaging, application packaging, and delivery across multi-platform devices (Windows, Mac, Chrome) using tools like Intune, MEMCM, or Jamf. Directory Services: Manage and troubleshoot Active Directory (GPO) for policy enforcement and control. Security: Administer endpoint security, content filtering, and anti-malware systems; responsible for OS/hardware hardening and security remediation. Mobility: Support and administer wireless technology and mobile platforms (iOS, Android, Chromebooks). Install, configure and maintain commercially developed instructional and administrative application software. Aid end-users on the use and operation of installed technology. Assist other technical staff in resolving difficult systems/networks problems. Assist in the documentation of current and future systems. Messaging & Email Security Email Security: Administer and provide escalation support for email security platforms (Cisco IronPort, Microsoft EOP/ATP) within the O365 cloud environment. Mailflow: Troubleshoot and resolve complex mail flow issues, including in MS Exchange hybrid environments. Service Transition: Collaborate on testing, implementation, and transition of new email security and messaging services. Professionalism & Communication Training: Develop and deliver technical training or staff development sessions. Communication: Maintain excellent verbal and written skills for technical documentation and high-level user support. Other Daily attendance at work and punctuality are essential functions of the job. Maintain strict confidentiality for all information stored in district systems. Foster and maintain a positive, respectful, and collaborative tone in all communications with internal and external stakeholders. Compile, maintain, and organize reports, records, and other required documentation. Adhere to all applicable federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, board policies, and district regulations. Attend Board, administrative, staff, and public meetings as required. Compile, maintain, file, and distribute all reports, records, and other documents as required following established procedures. Follow established campus and district routines to ensure compliance and consistency in operations. Perform other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment (computer, peripherals, phone); specialized diagnostic tools; network cabling tools; server hardware, racks, and components. Posture: Prolonged periods of sitting and standing; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling (e.g., when installing or accessing equipment in tight spaces or racks). Motion: Repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding, mousing, and fine manipulation of small parts (e.g., installing components, running cables), may climb ladders. Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over).. Environment: Frequent district-wide travel is required; occasional statewide and/or out-of-state travel for training or conferences. May involve working in server rooms or areas with limited space, dust, and potential temperature extremes. Mental Demands: Requires maintaining emotional control under pressure; ability to meet frequent deadlines; work with frequent interruptions; must be able to diagnose and resolve critical system failures quickly and accurately. Requires frequent on-call 24/7 and after-hours work. Occasional district-wide travel is required. Supervisory Responsibilities None. Qualifications
Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field OR 4 years of equivalent experience. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Systems Administration or a similar technical role, with specific experience in security issue remediation (malware/virus cleaning, OS/hardware hardening, etc.). Proven technical proficiency in administering multiple operating systems: Windows Server (multiple versions), Windows 10/11, Linux, Chrome, and macOS. Demonstrated expertise in managing enterprise email solutions (Microsoft Exchange/O365) and identity platforms (i.e., Active Directory, Google Admin Console, Tools4Ever). Experience with modern endpoint management technologies such as Microsoft Intune, MEMCM (SCCM), Jamf. Proficiency in scripting languages. Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the applicant. Preferred Qualifications Relevant technical certifications (e.g., Apple, Google, Microsoft, Cybersecurity) are highly desirable. Certification in IT security, such as CompTIA Security+ or CASP+ VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) certification Possession of an advanced Microsoft 365 certification Advanced proficiency and demonstrable project experience using PowerShell for complex, large-scale automation tasks. 5+ years of progressively responsible technical experience in a multi-platform environment (Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Platform Expertise: Expert knowledge of diverse OS environments (Windows Server/Client, Linux, macOS, Chrome OS) and enterprise virtualization (VMware vSphere). Cloud & Messaging: Deep functional knowledge of Microsoft 365 (O365), Exchange Online/Hybrid, and associated security/compliance protocols (EOP/ATP, SPF, DKIM). Endpoint Management: High proficiency in modern MDM/deployment tools including Intune, MEMCM/SCCM, Jamf, and Active Directory GPO. Networking Fundamentals: Strong command of core protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP) for advanced troubleshooting. Scripting: Superior ability to automate tasks and reporting using PowerShell and other relevant scripting languages. Security: Expertise in vulnerability management, malware remediation, and applying system security best practices. Autonomy: Proven ability to work independently, prioritize high-volume workflows, and proactively deliver scalable solutions. Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills for documentation, reporting, and technical training.
