JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS On-site - Full-time - Pay Grade: AP8-226 Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Reports to: Chief Human Capital Officer Department: Administration ABOUT THE JOB The Director of Athletics directs and manages the overall program of extracurricular and intramural athletics for the district; and works to provide each student with opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and local requirements. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Master’s degree from an accredited college or university Valid Texas teaching certificate Ten years successful teaching and coaching experience Athletic Department leadership experience preferred SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS - EXPERIENCE A good candidate for this position will possess knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program and knowledge of state and UIL policies governing athletics; the ability to implement policy and procedures; the ability to interpret data; the ability to manage budget and personnel and coordinate district function; and strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ** The Director of Athletics will direct and manage the district's athletic program and facilities; establish physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport, and verify each athlete’s eligibility; maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development; obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge athletic program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs; plan necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of department goals; conduct regular meetings with all head coaches and coordinators to discuss participation, off-season programs, scheduling, discipline and goals; and attend all District UIL meetings. **The Director of Athletics **will prepare and approve all interscholastic game schedules; arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town athletic events; manage district athletic operations by directing ticket sales, employing game officials, and ensuring preparation of facilities; oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all athletic equipment; coordinate the use of all athletic facilities by non school groups; and plan, organize, and supervise all athletic awards programs. The Director of Athletics will implement district student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook; and establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences on vital issues with parents, students, and teachers. The Director of Athletics will implement the policies established by federal law, state law, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and local board policy in the area of athletics; and compile, maintain, file, and present all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. The Director of Athletics will administer the athletic budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and that funds are managed prudently; compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs; initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies; maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment and recommend disposal and replacement of equipment when necessary; and approve and forward purchase orders for the athletic department to the accounting department. The Director of Athletics will prepare, review, and revise job descriptions for the athletic department; recruit, select, train, and supervise all athletic department personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, assignments, retention, discipline, and dismissal; evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness; and develop training options and/or improvement plans for employees to ensure exemplary operation in the area of athletics. The Director of Athletics will articulate the district’s mission and goals in the area of athletics to the community and solicit its support in realizing its mission; demonstrate awareness of district and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs; use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement; and support athletic booster club activities. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise and evaluate the performance of the Assistant Athletic Director, coaches and support staff. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Use of the equipment may be required: Use of standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. The job may require mental/physical demands and consideration of environmental factors: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching; occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 20 pounds); may work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district wide and statewide travel; stressful decision-making moments; frequent communication with other employees and members of the public; work with frequent interruptions; and maintain emotional control under stress. This job is expected to be mostly on-site but comes with the possibility to work remotely (from home) a few days per week as determined by your supervisor. Salary Range
$101,724 - $143,388
