2026-2027 New Position Primary Purpose: Provide intervention for students with communication disorders in the areas of articulation, language, voice, and fluency. Under the supervision of the Speech Language Pathologist, administer and interpret a variety of evaluation tools, develop and implement individualized treatment plans, and collaborate with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to support student communication, academic success, and social-emotional development. Develop expertise in evidence-based assessment and treatment methodologies as well as knowledge of federal, state, and district regulations governing special education services. Major Responsibilities and Duties: Therapy & Evaluation Conduct speech, language, and hearing screenings as directed by the supervising licensed speech language pathologist. Provide individual and group therapy aligned with goals in students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs) as designed by the supervising licensed speech language pathologist. Monitor and evaluate student progress, adjusting therapy services as needed. Conduct carry-over activities to transfer a student’s newly acquired communication ability to other contexts and situations. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committees as directed by the supervising speech language pathologist. Conduct observations and prepare clinical materials. Consultation & Collaboration Consult with colleagues, parents, and students regarding therapy goals, student needs, and intervention strategies. Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities that support communication skill development. Student Management Create a safe and supportive learning environment appropriate for students’ maturity levels and needs. Implement classroom management and discipline consistent with the Student Code of Conduct and district policies. Program Management Reflect on speech language pathology service implementation and make program improvements based on data and findings. Participate in the selection and use of assessment tools, instructional materials, and therapy equipment. Compliance, Policy, Reports, and Law Maintain accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, services, and records in the district’s digital management system. Compile, maintain, and submit all required reports, documentation, and records in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements. Adhere to the ethical guidelines of professionals within the public school setting. Comply with all policies established by federal laws, state regulations, State Board of Education rules, and local board policies. Other Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Perform all other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard testing equipment Posture: Frequent sitting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, keyboarding Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); possible positioning of students with physical disabilities; possible lifting and moving of adaptive equipment Environment: Frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure
Qualifications
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in communicative science and disorders Texas license as Speech Language Pathology Assistant granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions Ability to instruct and manage student behavior Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills Excellent organizational and documentation skills Experience: Fifty hours of clinical observation and assisting experience as required for licensure
Salary Range
Contract Days: 186 days Salary: Pay Grade 1: $53,435-$71,310, commensurate with experience
